- Looking for winsock.zip , Where did it go?
-
- In the alt.winsock FAQ it states that the winsock.dll can be found in
- winsock.zip at:
- biochemistry.cwru.edu/pub/trumpwsk or
- sunsite.unc.edu/pub/micro/pc-stuff/ms-windows/winsock
-
- but the file is missing.
-
- Has the file been temporarily removed for updating?
- Will it be uploaded soon?
- Or has it been moved? To where?
-
- What I'm really looking for is the winsock.h file for trumpit. I understand
- this has some SLIP commands in it that don't exist in other DLL's.

- I expect everyone thinks someone else will tell you. There is little
- enough and you'll find it inside the ZIPs of the various applications,
- which you will find on sunsite, cica, biochemistry (ie the usual
- suspects) or there is a good collection on ftp.demon.co.uk

-
- Another good question! There was once a proposal to split the group
- to add alt.winsock.hackers and some other group whose name escapes me
- at present, but the mkgroup was forged and a rmgroup was issued and
- certainly it never happened anywhere round here.
-
- There is indeed a need for such a group - but nothing is happening.
- This is sad.
-
- >Could you please post and email your response. I don't always get news

-
- Fair enough - but it would be polite to promise to summarise to the
- net. Apart from anything else it will save you getting a lot of
- "please tell me too" mail.

- Subject: NCSA Mosaic v2.0alpha2 Released
-
-
- We are happy to announce the release of NCSA Mosaic for Microsoft Windows
- Version 2.0alpha2. NCSA Mosaic is a network navigational tool that will
- allow you to easily access networked information with the click of a button.
- Mosaic is capable of accessing data via protocols such as Gopher, World
- Wide Web, FTP and NNTP (Usenet News) natively, and other data services
- such as Archie, WAIS, and Veronica through gateways. NCSA Mosaic was
- designed to provide its user transparent and seamless access to these
- information sources and services.
-
- SA Mosaic for Microsoft Windows is a WinSock client program. It requires
- network (TCP/IP) access through the WinSock DLL interface. If you are using
- Windows NT, this is built in. If you are using Windows 3.1, you need to
- obtain a WinSock and install it on your system. If you are running a
- commercial TCP/IP stack, such as FTP Software, Novell, PCNFS, etc., you
- will need to obtain that vendors winsock.dll. If you need a winsock.dll and
- you would like to obtain an alpha version of a shareware product called the
- "Trumpet Software International Winsock", you can find this product at the
- ftp site, ftp.utas.edu.au. The file winsock.zip is in the pc/trumpet/winsock
- directory.
-
- Version 2.0alpha2 of Mosaic is available via anonymous FTP on NCSA's FTP
- server, "ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu"(141.142.20.50), in the directory "/PC/Mosaic".
- The file is wmos20a1.zip.
-
- Here's what's new:
-
- -Redirect bug fixed
- -Spiffy new hotlist/menu user interface
- -Proxy gateway support
- -DNS cacheing
- -faster GIF decoding
- -URLs missing trailing slash (e.g. "http://cs.indiana.edu") now have
- correct relative urls
- -Several FORMs bugs fixed-
- -Added linebreak after end of form
- -Fixed linebreak after checkboxes & radio buttons
- -Added support for input type isindex (no autosubmit, though)
- -Text areas now submit correctly
- -Forced extra painting to fix drawing problems
- -Elements are now sent in the same order as Mosaic for X
- -Added input type "hidden"
- -Fixed forms associated memory leaks
- -External telnet no longer returns "-9999" error
- -leading/trailing spaces in entered URLs are now ignored
- -GPFing on multiple reloads fixed
- -Background is erased before redrawing when right-clicking on an
- unloaded image
- -Window position saves correctly again
- -Fixed drawing of search window
- -Minor memory leak fixed in NCSA Icon
- -Minor memory leak in SGML parser fixed
- -Memory leak fixed in Document
- -A few more GDI leaks plugged
- -Doubled available user menus (to 20 menus, 40 items each)
-
-
- BUG REPORTS AND ENHANCEMENT REQUESTS should be emailed to
- "mosaic-win@ncsa.uiuc.edu". PLEASE INCLUDE THE VERSION NUMBER YOU ARE USING
- IN ANY MAIL YOU SEND US. Thank you for your interest and support.
